Top 10 Most Disturbing Films of All Time(As of 2019).

I have watched a lot of TV and film over the years, probably more than I would care to admit, but during my adventures into cinema, I have come across a lot of truly bizarre films. Some that you probably wouldn’t show your family over fear of being put onto some kind of watch list. So, I have decided to catalog these films so that you can cringe along with me. You can find most of these on TPB, if you’re into that sort of thing.

10. IRREVERSIBLE (2002).

This entire movie takes place in Paris over the course of a night. What makes this film interesting is that the sequence of events is shot in reverse, instead of the usual chronological format. It also has one of the most intense and realistic rapes in cinematic history. Hopefully you don’t mind subtitles.

9. GUMMO (1997).

This film depicts the aftermath of one of the most devastating tornadoes in US history, which happened to hit the small town of Xenia, Ohio. The movie itself isn’t really about the tornado itself, but the nihilistic lives of the townsfolk who live in its wake. It’s gritty, dark, and will leave you feeling surreal.

Men Behind the Sun is about the notorious Unit 731, a Japanese squadron who plagued the Chinese during the second World War. The film focuses on the torture that these people endured while Japan conducted horrifying biological testing on them. You’ll need a strong stomach for this one.

This entire film focuses on Divine, the “Filthiest Person Alive,” along with her entourage, as they wage war with an equally disgusting couple attempting to steal her title. It’s a bizarre look into a surprisingly accurate portrayal of carnie life, minus the carnivals. You’ll probably dry heave during some parts.

6. MARTYRS (2008).

Martyrs is a revenge movie about a woman returning the favor to the people who kidnapped and tortured her as a child. Apparently, during its first screening, people were vomiting and fainting at the film festival where it was first played. The protagonist is surgical in the way that she exacts revenge, and you just have to see it to get a real feel for how violent it is.

5. KIDS (1995).

IMDB says, “A day in the life of a group of teens as they travel around New York City skating, drinking, smoking, and deflowering virgins,” though it’s really hard to put into words what this film is actually about. Maybe it’s about the perversion of youth, or how bad choices even while young, can carve out your future. There is a really dark tone to this movie, even though it has its cheerful moments.

4. HAPPINESS (1998).

This film follows the lives of several people, all looking to find some kind of human intimacy, even through degeneracy. What’s interesting about this film is that the characters are all intertwined, be it without their knowledge. The viewer gets to see these connections that the characters are oblivious to. This film will make you very uncomfortable, and I don’t recommend it as a “first date,” movie.

3. FEED (2005).

A cybercrime investigator begins tracking down a man who he suspects is feeding women to death for paying customers to watch online. The film has a weird feel to it as you observe a relatively less known subculture of people who get off on feeding obese women to the point where their hearts stop. Feeders and gainers are actually more common than you would think, which makes it all the more disturbing.

2. A SERBIAN FILM (2010).

An aging porn star is out of options when he is offered a new role, one that he reluctantly takes due to pressures from still living with his brother and his brother’s wife. The role was supposed to be in an art film, meant to give him a clean break from his old life. However, he soon discovers that he’s actually been drafted into a pedophilic snuff film.

There isn’t too much to say about this movie other than the fact that you could probably burn it onto a DVD, and give it to someone with no context, then end up on the news. This is practically a snuff film, and you would have to really work hard to convince anyone that you showed that it wasn’t. It’s brutal, and sickening, and very hard to watch. It’s about a group of friends doing a lot of killing and torture. Be warned, they still haven’t made anything close to as gruesome as this one is yet.

PS: This one has sequels.
