(This book is part one in a series of three)

Catastrophic flooding plunged the Earth into a harsh existence hundreds of years ago. Unable to bear the weight of the chaos, societal structures broke down and domes were constructed to preserve the coastal cities as the surrounding areas became swampy wasteland. In this new and unforgiving world, survival of the fittest is the only true law.

Harvey Cline has perfected his bravado in order to survive in the Biloxi dome, but it takes more than charm to stay on top for any length of time. Hostility between the competing casinos is escalating and he risks losing everything. When he learns of a new drug that could rig the game in his favor, he heads to the swamps to find the source.

He thought it’d be easy saving his casino, but he wasn’t expecting the pretty bird in the sundress to give him a run for his money.

Typical swamp folk are secretive, angry, and hostile. Norra Lasalle is no different. With a little bit of luck and a whole lot of bluffing, she’s been able to keep her head above water while making Gator Bait, but people are starting to snoop around and she’s worried she may have bitten off more than she can chew. Harvey is pure trouble in a fancy suit and she wants no part of it, especially when the guy has a real knack for working down her guard. Her anonymity has kept her alive so far… but how long can the loose lips in a small town keep that kind of a secret?

Another great collaboration between Kyle Perkins and Lila Vale! I am not usually a fan of dystopian or futuristic stories but gave this a shot because of previously read books by these two great authors and I am glad I did. After a different out come to some historical events like the North losing, JFK not being killed and slavery not ending until 1989, the earth is hit with a flood leaving the government to build a Dome city under the water for the rich and leaving the poor on the surface to live in the swamps, both groups are born and bred to hate each other. Norra, an independent, spit-fire drug making “Swampie” finds herself in hot water and in need of the help of Harvey a cocky, mob boss, casino owner “Bubble person”. The two of them must work together to save both of their worlds, but can they trust each other, not kill each other in the process and ignore the sexual attraction for each other long enough to make it out alive? This book contains, action, suspense, humor, hot and steamy scenes and a surprise twist I didn’t see coming. This is a must read and you will not be disappointed.

Written in the future, after the south has been affected by rising water levels, there is a city within a dome, Biloxi. As protected, wealthy and ritzy this city is, there is still a struggle for domination and power within the confines of the structure encasing them inside. Of course there is a way out for those that live in the dome, just no way in for those that don’t. When news of a new ‘enhancer’ reaches Harvey and his casino, he follows the path to the open aired swamplands
Norra is a girl in a situation, making it necessary for her to do whatever it takes to live in her family home and survive without being caught.
Norra has what Harvey is looking for and their struggle to work together proves to be as deadly as just living in the swamps.
This book is packed full of action, romance, suspense and power. I was drawn into the story immediately, falling in love with their situations and their need to escape them. As the story progresses, secrets are revealed and the truths that were a constant in their lives, come crashing down in a whirlwind of lies. The ability to work together an almost impossible setting, proves to be the ultimate bridge between the societies and their success or failure.
I loved this book and the characters that were created. I wanted for the characters as I shared in their strength and their sorrow. There was so much emotion on every page, you had no choice but to hope they would make it out together. What you don’t expect, is the lies and the links that cause the emotional connection and breakdowns between the characters.
Loved this book. Would read it many more times.

Brilliant story set in a divided united states. Domes have been set up to separate the city from the swaps Norra is a swampie who happened upon a mind altering drug while trying to treat an injured horse in her farm, Harvey is a casino boss from Biloxi – they couldn’t be more different. Harvery goes to the swamps to try to find the source of “Gator Bait” as he believes this drug could help business. He brings Norra back to Biloxi and everything they thought they knew is turned upside down.
Great writing, hard to believe that it is 2 writers are it flows seemlessly.
Second book I have read by these writers working together. I look forward to reading any other tales they create together – great team

This is a fun, wild, thrilling ride. Harvey and Norra make a dynamite couple and there’s no end to the excitement and danger they encounter in this tale. Set in the futuristic South, in a place that has two very distinct groups, swampies and bubble folk, the two lead characters must find a way to bridge a cultural gap wider than the Grand Canyon.

There isn’t a dull moment in this book which made it impossible to set down until I came to the last page of the epilogue, and even then I sat and stared at the last page for a minute, contemplating what would have happened next and trying to get over the unforeseeable plot twist that caught me completely off guard. There isn’t a dreaded cliff hanger at the end, but perhaps Chanelle and Johnnie have a novella or their own book to be written? *hint, hint*

Vale and Perkins make a great writing team and you can feel how their writing matures and begins to blend seamlessly throughout the book. Each chapter coming from a different point of view is refreshing and gives it a more balanced feel. I’m looking forward to seeing what else they come up with together and am happily an overly enthusiastic fangirl of both!

This is now the second book I have read by these guys and they’re a great team. Their writing is so effortless I could read their books all day long. This book was recommended to me as I’m a fan of dystopian and on reading their other joint work I knew I couldn’t pass it up. Sometimes when world building, it gets way too technical but they don’t do that. I understood how this new way of life came about without feeling like a dumbass. I’m a fan of alternating points of view and they do it so well. I’m not going to rehash the blurb in this review, all I’ll say is this is the second swoon worthy guy they created. I loved the dialogue, they excel at creating characters with the right blend of wit and stubborness. The female lead Norra was exactly what I like in a female protagonist – ballsy, intelligent and capable. And Harvey -Yum – funny, gorgeous and no wimp.
    Thoroughly enjoyed this read.
    They have a new fan.
